Lower East Side Tenement Musuem

The Tenement Museum is a restored tenement building. A tenement is a cheaply built apartment building that housed many immigrants from the 1830s to the 1950s. When the museum bought it they restored and recreated some of the apartments to look as they had during different time periods. There are several apartments that represent different time periods and different states of condition.

All the barrels were outside. They gave you everything in plastic bags. It has more candy than any place I've seen. There are lots of old time favorites that your parents would be pleased about!!!!! The workers are friendly and help you in any way they can. It has thousands of M&M's and hundreds of different kinds of jelly beans. All the jelly beans together look like a rainbow. The place smells of sugar and candy. It also has dried fruits and mints. It has Ice cream flavored jelly beans. This place is a nice place to go on a cold day. Afterwards you feel all warm inside. I want to warn you that there is a sign that says five dollar fine if you whine. Our group all recomands this store.

El Castillo De Jagua (Spanish/Dominican)

There were stereos in every corner playing Spanish music. On the walls they had plates and crab shells. Plants and pumpkins decorated the window. They had table cloths with plastic on top and they had wood panels on the walls. There is a bar next to the door leading downstairs. If you open the door to go downstairs you will find the bathroom. Annie got a small chicken noodle soup and shared a thick sugary lemonade with Priya. The small chicken soup was $3.50 and the lemonade was $3.00. The chicken noodle soup tasted home made because the chicken had a bone and was real. The lemonade tasted like a lemony cream soda except without the bubbles and more sugary. Priya also had some chicken soup and lemonade. (Dylan said she got a sugar rush because the lemonade was too sugary.) Altogether it cost $6.50. It is a very cheap store with good food. Dylan had buttered bread, spicy pork, rice, and sour salad(because of the beet juice.) David got corn pancakes. You can't taste the difference except that they are yellower and fluffier. They were soooo good. Everything was good.

Festival Restaurant (Mexican)

Festival Restaurant (Mexican) is like a trip to Mexico. There are rainbow colored lights and a bar. Also, there are lots of tables that you can choose from. It has a nice bartender and nice waiters. The food is appetizing, and it has lots of tacos, nachos, and quesadillas (chicken or cheese). When you order something they normally serve beans, cheese, rice, and lettuce with the meal. They have soda, and lots of other drinks to choose from. The place is very welcoming and we recommend it.

Katz's Delicatessen has been a New York favorite since Mark Katz opened it in 1888. The most popular dishes are corn beef and pastrami. The potato pancakes at Katz's taste a little bit like a tater tot but also have a little bit of fried potato. On the outside it's crunchy and on the inside it's soft. Katz's also has hamburgers, hot dogs, grilled cheese, and more. So send a salami to your boy in the army. ( It's their motto.)

They had it well organized like: meat, fish, poultry, produce, and cafes. There were even smaller businesses to the far back of the market such as: a barber shop (with a lot of hair on the floor), and a small trinket shop. Dylan bought a caned lychee drink. In one of the shops there was a lot of coconut water.
